Carney T. DeSarno, M.D., F.A.C.S.
The founder of Jersey Shore Advanced Surgical Associates, Carney T. DeSarno, MD, is a board-certified general
surgeon and a native of New Jersey. The Practice was founded in 2002. Dr. DeSarno was named a “NJ Top Doctor” by his peers in 2012, for his commitment to general surgery and breast surgery. He was also named New Jersey Monthly “Nurses Choice Top Doctor” in 2010. Dr. DeSarno brings years of experience and unmatched dedication to his community. He was inducted into the Wall High School Alumni Association Hall of Fame in 2002 for his service to his community and academic achievements. As a specialist in gallbladder removal, hernia surgery, colon surgery and breast surgery, Dr. DeSarno has treated thousands of patients in our area and the neighboring communities. As the senior surgeon at Jersey Shore Advanced Surgical Group, Dr. DeSarno continues to inspire his peers and colleagues as one of the most respected clinicians in New Jersey. His clinical acumen and surgical skills have brought patients from across the state to seek his help.

Education
Having been born at Jersey Shore Medical Center and raised in Wall Township, Dr. DeSarno’s early aspirations were to become a physician, and he attended Johns Hopkins University, where he graduated with a BA in 1989. He earned his MD from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in 1993 and chose to return to his home in New Jersey to train in general surgery at Monmouth Medical Center. After completing his surgical residency in 1998, Dr. DeSarno began his surgical career in Neptune, New Jersey, just a few hundred yards from the hospital in which he was born, and founding the Jersey Shore Advanced Surgical Associates in 2002.

Seun Sowemimo, MD, FACS, FASMBS
Dr. Oluseun A. Sowemimo, (Dr. Seun) is a board-certified, fellowship-trained New Jersey-based bariatric surgeon specializing in minimally-invasive laparoscopic weight loss surgery. He also performs general surgery, including gallbladder removal and hernia repair surgery.
He has office hours in Neptune, Toms River, Jackson, Freehold and Old Bridge, NJ. He is the Medical Director for Bariatric Surgery at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, a Bariatric Center of Excellence.
Dr. Seun is on staff at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Bayshore Community Hospital, Old Bridge Medical Center (Hackensack Meridian Health) and CentraState Medical Center.
Education
Dr. Seun successfully completed surgical fellowship training in advanced minimally invasive (laparoscopic), robotic and open bariatric surgery at Yale University School of Medicine, Hospital of St. Raphael, New Haven, CT .
He completed his general surgery internship and residency training at College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, Harlem Hospital Center, New York, where he was Chief Resident (2004 – 2005). After completing clinical clerkships at Kings College Hospital, London, Dr. Seun began his surgical training at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, London.
In May 2025, Dr. Sowemmimo earned dual graduate degrees from Cornell University: an Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Master of Science in Healthcare Leadership (MS).
